Today a band called the Kottonmouth Kings are carrying the torch. They got their start in 1994 with the teaming of former
Humble Gods frontman Brad Daddy X, rapper D-Loc, DJ Bobby B and silent co-conspirator Pakelika (the band's "visual assassin").
Their sound, by their description "psychedelic hip-hop punk rock," was developed in the same Southern California
breeding pool as the Offspring and Sublime (both of whom they've shared stages with). As Brad X poetically puts it, "this
whole trip is a movement born and raised in OC (Orange County, CA). But like a bud plant we will take it and grow it across
the country." Although their label, Suburban Noize, is distributed by Capitol, they retain control. "That's why
we started our own label. We couldn't see anyone but the kids understanding what we're trying to create. We do everything
ourselves and built it from the streets."
